L-Tryptophan
Description
Tryptophan is an essential amino acid and is used by the brain to produce serotonin, the inhibitory neurotransmitter responsible for normal sleep. Insufficient amounts of serotonin are often responsible for insomnia, depression, ADD, restless leg syndrome and many other disorders. Tryptophan is a precursor for the production of 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). It is also a precursor for the production of melatonin and when supplemental Tryptophan is given, it causes a rapid increase in melatonin levels.
Tryptophan, as with most amino acids, should be taken with Vitamin C and B6.
Jo Mar's L-Tryptophan is 100% pure U.S.P. grade crystalline free form. The powder is not water soluble, has a bitter taste and weighs about 1.6 grams per level measuring teaspoon.
